Access Coordinator
Shelby is an accessibility professional with more than a decade of experience working to advance disability inclusion beyond compliance through education, allyship and the integration of proactive accessible practices.
She began her career in access at Oregon Health and Science University, providing student learning support and direct disability services as the Director of the Office for Student Access. She supported students in all programs as they navigated classroom instruction, clinical practice, internships/practicum, professional licensure, and residency. While there, she also served as the lead instructional designer and accessibility consultant for development of the Health Information Technology National Curriculum – a federal workforce development training program.
From OHSU, Shelby served as the Associate Director of University Disability Services at Harvard University, where she provided central administrative leadership of accessible, inclusive and equitable practices for students, employees, and guests with disabilities. Her partnerships with other central units, including Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion, Faculty Development, and Health and Wellness, furthered integrated accessible and inclusive practices across Harvard’s programs.
Shelby returned to the Pacific Northwest during the pandemic to be closer to family and worked with the Oregon Health Authority’s COVID Response and Recovery Unit as an Accessibility Specialist, focused on ensuring that Oregonians with disabilities had equal access to COVID-related programs, effective communication, and accessible services across the state.
Shelby currently supports students with disabilities through consultation and technical support for access and inclusion in higher education.
